Trash workers lend help to homeless

December 28, 1999

GLENDALE -- Members of the Integrated Waste Management section of the

city's Public Works Department are among those who celebrated the season

for giving by doing just that.

The city employees provided a Christmas Eve dinner, complete with a

visit from Santa Claus and gifts for all, for residents of PROJECT

ACHIEVE, a local year-round homeless shelter.

Gina Moore, a customer service representative for the section, said

about 30 people attended the dinner. The section raised about $900 for

the event and items were donated by employees and local businesses, she

said.

This is the second Christmas visit Integrated Waste Management has

made to the shelter.

"It humbles you," Moore said. "Things in your day-to-day life you take

for granted until you see someone else doesn't have them."
