service disconnected Feb. 7 if the bill is not paid.
Bell owes in more than $1,500, including a deposit of $700, said city
spokesman Ritch Wells. The bill was due Nov. 17 and marks her first
delinquency since October 1998, Wells said.
"It speaks for itself," Wells said of the unpaid bill.
Bell did not return phone calls asking for comment.
Bell has been on and off the city's list since Glendale started a
policy in February 1998 to turn off service for master meter accounts
that go unpaid. A master meter account has one meter serve an entire
complex, and is paid by the landlord instead of the tenants.
Bell had owed the city tens of thousands of dollars in utility bills
but Glendale went to court to make her pay. The city finally received its
money when Bell sold one of her properties that the city had a lien on.
The Bell delinquency is one of five accounts that are in arrears and
Glendale officials have notified tenants that service may be shut off.
If the bills aren't paid and utilities are disconnected Feb. 7,
residents will have three days to move out of their apartments.
According to the city, other property owners delinquent in paying
their bills are:
* Ashot Hakopian -- 512 S. Pacific Ave., nine units.
* B.V. -- 1710 N. Verdugo Road and 1800 and 1802 Arvin, three units.
* Aida Alaniz -- 730 E. Chestnut St., two units.
* P. Torres -- 327 E. Elk Ave., two units.
