Vaqueros head to Division I schools

GLENDALE -- With the winter break at most colleges and universities

many students have returned to classes.

For four Glendale Community College football players, they have

returned, but rather changed schools.

Those players, quarterback Mike Frost, receiver Chad Heydorff, tight

end Brian Gelt and offensive lineman Taylor Ketchum have all signed

letters of intent to play at Division I universities.

Frost who passed for a state-leading 3,405 yards, 30 touchdowns and 16

interceptions, has signed with Temple University. The 6-foot-2, 218-pound

signal caller from Ayala High in Chino Hills completed 221 of 372 passes

and earned first-team All-State and All-Western State Conference honors.

Heydorff, who was named to the JC-Grid Wire All-America first team,

has signed with UC Berkeley.

The 6-1, 180 pounder receiver from St. Francis High, led the state

with 86 receptions for 1,616 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Gelt, a 6-4, 230-pound tight end from Canyon High, signed with San

Diego State after being named to the Western State Conference's first

team.

Ketchum, who like Heydorff attended St. Francis High, is headed to

Ohio University.

The 6-2, 285-pound lineman earned second-team All-Western State

Conference honors.

GCC offensive lineman Eddie Martinez could become the fifth Vaquero

this season to sign with a Division I school.

Martinez, a 6-4, 285-pound offensive lineman from Diamond Bar High has

made an oral commitment to UC Berkeley, but will have to complete his

transfer requirements this semester.
