GLENDALE -- More money does a body good.

A $149,250 donation made to the Glendale Community Foundation by The

California Endowment means more funding for five health-related programs

in the area.

The grant from the endowment will benefit the Verdugo Mental Health

Center, Glendale Healthy Kids, Glendale Youth Coalition, VNA Care, a

visiting nurse association and local programs of the L.A. County Health

Department.

The endowment, a health-care foundation based in Woodland Hills, seeks

to expand access to affordable quality health-care for underserved

people.

"The California Endowment has been working with all the community

foundations in the state for some time to build a strategy of improving

the health status for all Californians," said E. Lewis Reid, president

and chief executive officer of the endowment, in a statement. "Since the

Glendale Community Foundation has been making grants in this local area

for more than 43 years, it made sense for us to utilize their local

expertise and knowledge."

The Glendale Community Foundation is a charitable endowment that

benefits programs throughout the Glendale area and La Canada Flintridge.
