Verdugo Hills to offer free immunizations

VERDUGO HILLS HOSPITAL -- Getting your child ready for middle school

is about to become a little easier.

The hospital and the County of Los Angeles Health Department are

offering free hepatitis B and measles, mumps and rubella vaccinations

Feb. 25 to students 9 to 13 years old.

California law requires incoming seventh-grade students to show proof

of having received the hepatitis B shot and a second vaccination against

measles, often administered as the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine.

Parents can request waivers if the requirement conflicts with their

personal beliefs, according to the state law.

A booster tetanus and diphtheria shot is recommended.

The immunizations will be offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the

hospital, at 1812 Verdugo Blvd.
