DOWNTOWN -- VNACare, a Brand Boulevard-based nonprofit organization

that provides hospice and home health care, has received a $29,500 grant

from the California Endowment.

The money, which was funneled through the Glendale Community

Foundation, will be used to help the organization adapt to new government

guidelines.

The group also provides subsidized care for the underinsured and those

without health care.

"There are a lot of gaps in our system between who is covered and who

is not," said Shelby Riddle, fund-raising coordinator for the

organization.

The group exists solely on private donations. It has been in Glendale

since 1943. Last year, it helped 1,858 patients in Los Angeles County.
