The current price of regular unleaded gas is $1.79, which increases

the sales tax to 15-cents per gallon. And the total tax on one gallon of

regular gas to $.50 per gallon.

It is not too difficult to understand out state lawmakers and their

lack of attention to this situation. Sales tax money is really flowing

into our state tax fund. Our state legislators will tell us that the

17-cent state and local gas tax is used for streets and highways, that it

does not go into the general fund. The current conditions of our streets

and highways leaves plenty of room for doubts in regard to this

assertion.
