Zoo scene of earthquake fair

GRIFFITH PARK -- Glendale and Burbank police officers and firefighters

will be at the L.A. Zoo parking lot Friday through Sunday for an

earthquake preparedness fair.

The free fair will feature more than 200 agencies and vendors showing

citizens how to prepare for the aftermath of an earthquake.

Burbank firefighters will demonstrate how to shut off home gas lines,

secure electrical power and mend broken water lines, said Rich Baenan,

the department's disaster preparedness coordinator.

Other area fire departments will demonstrate firefighting techniques

and search-and-rescue skills at the fair, which is in its ninth year.

Los Angeles agencies will be there with hazardous materials teams,

bomb squads and utility workers, Baenan said.

A variety of vendors will sell items such as first aid kits and

specialized tools.

Special children's exhibits and pet care booths will be set also be up

at the fair, organizers said.
