GLENDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE -- Students, teachers, family and friends

filled the GCC art gallery on Thursday for the opening of ART o7

timesf7 ART, the college's annual student art show.

"It's a real eclectic show," said Caryl St. Ama, a GCC painting and

drawing instructor and former gallery director. "We could have a second

show with the work that wasn't selected, there are so many pieces of

quality work."

About 400 entries were received by art department faculty members, who

selected 96 for the show. The show continues through May 13.

Awards were handed out during a lunchtime reception for ceramics,

digital arts, drawing, graphic design, media arts, painting, photo,

sculpture, design and 3-D design.

Among the general category, or advanced, winners were Yoko Sekino,

Kaz, Minoru Terada, Anahit Houhannisyan, Sheruin Youssefian, Melissa

Flores, Danny Ventrella and Agneta Hurst.

Beginning category winners included Cynthia Doucote-Poliak, Eisuke

Taki, Jay Yim, Ada Safi, Greg Hunt and Patricia Lee.

"I was hoping just to get into the show," said Vikki Black,

second-year art student who won a beginning category honorable mention

ribbon for her oil painting, "Sylvester Transforming." "That was reward

enough. But this topped it off."

The student art gallery is in the GCC library and is open from 11 a.m.

to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday. Call

240-1000, Ext. 5663 for more information.
