DOWNTOWN -- Glendale Girl Scout Jessica Ortiz, 17, is hosting an

Easter party to benefit needy Glendale families from 9 a.m. to noon

Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 134 N. Kenwood St.

Volunteers are being asked to bring donations of Easter baskets,

candy, new unwrapped toys and groceries to make an Easter dinner.

Everyone is encouraged to pitch in and fill the baskets, which will then

be delivered to 20 families in the area.

The list of families was put together by Healthy Kids, a Glendale

Unified School District project.

Taking care of others is all in the family for Ortiz.

"My sister had done the same kind of thing last year," she said. "I

really saw the impact that it had to give people what they couldn't

have."

An 11-year veteran of scouting and a member of Glendale Senior Troop

735, Ortiz will earn scouting's highest honor, the Gold Award, with this

project.
