I was disappointed to read that Chuck Sambar was not chosen as

president of the Glendale Board of Education at the recent election. He

is intelligent, analytical and knowledgeable about the needs of the

Glendale Unified School District.

His experience in working with parents, teachers, administrators and

the general public have prepared him well to work as a facilitator,

leader and negotiator, all qualities necessary for an effective board

member and certainly for the position of president.

One need only read his thought-provoking articles to view the manner

in which he looks at all sides of a situation, seeks information and

studies before making final decisions that affect the children and

teachers of Glendale. His independent thought is important to the board,

hopefully causing all members to examine their own thinking rather than

assiduously maintaining the status quo.

My daughter and I attended Keppel, Toll, and Hoover, graduated from

universities, pursued postgraduate work, and remain active in the

community, I in Burbank, and my daughter in Irvine. I expect the board to

use its best judgment in its decisions so that all children have similar

success on their educational journeys. The best judgment would have been

Chuck Sambar as president of the Glendale Board of Education.
