May 10, 2000

PASADENA -- Several area designers are displaying their works in the

Pasadena Showcase House of Design 2000.

The sophisticated California Traditional estate is in a historic area

of the San Gabriel Valley. About 50 interior and exterior designers have

taken on a room or outdoor area and restored the 1941 property designed

by architect Roland Coate, originally owned by Lawrence Barker of Barker

Bros. Furniture Store.

Interior designers participating from the local area are Michaela

Scherrer of Glendale, who has remodeled the Cabana along with fellow

designer Rozalynn Woods of Pasadena and Traci L. Larsen of La Canada

Flintridge, who refurbished the guest bedroom.

Exterior designers who have recreated various landscapes surrounding

the home are John R. Roberts of John Roberts Florticulturalist in La

Canada Flintridge, Leo Snider of Coventry Landscape in La Crescenta,

Annie St. Clair of Through the Woods Design in Tujunga, Terry Morrill of

Pacific Pavingstone, Inc. in Glendale, and Gary Badger of Badger

Landscaping in Sunland Tujunga.

Sponsored by the Pasadena Junior Philharmonic Committee, the event

raises funds for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and youth music

education. The committee has also made a $1 million pledge to the Walt

Disney Concert Hall scheduled to be completed in the year 2002 in

downtown Los Angeles.

Locally, La Canada Educational Foundation received a $6,000 grant from

the committee toward its Share the Music program for instructional

material. Funds were raised at last year's home tour.
