Letter

June 03, 2000

This letter is to the La Crescenta community in regards to some

potential business locations. I have been a resident in La Crescenta for

48 years, and I am concerned about businesses that are put up in my

community.

I witnessed the first strip mall go in years ago where Rite Aid is and

that was a major change for the community. Over the years, I have seen

almost every corner and every large unoccupied lot turn into another

strip mall. Well I'm here to say, "Enough is Enough!"

I think we as a community have a right to say what kind of businesses

can go in our town, or at least let people know what we would like to

have go in as a business. We have enough salons, cleaners, tutoring

schools, dental offices, etc. We need a nice restaurant that we can go

with friends and family that serves a California cuisine.

For example, Marie Callender's, Black Angus, even a Denny's. We use to

have an old-fashioned coffee shop, Delrods, but now we don't even have

that anymore. I realize that you have to have plenty of room for parking,

but look at Dominicks Restaurant, they have hardly any parking. I'm sure

there must be sone kind of coffee shop or restaurant that could go into

some of these smaller areas too.

The reason I am bringing this up now is that I know there is an empty

lot on the corner of Rosemont Avenue and Foothill Boulevard, as well as

right down the street next to the real estate office that are fenced in.

I'm not sure if they have already been committed to something, but if

not, let's put a restaurant there. The other place is Vons market on the

corner of Pennsylvania Avenue, they are moving over to the bowling alley

lot, and the lot where they are now is up for lease, so lets vote on some

sort of restaurant!

I'm sure you are like me and don't want anymore strip malls here. I

worked on the billboard committee years ago to pass the law so no more

billboards will go up, lets work on stopping more strip malls, but

bringing in restaurants. We at least should have a chance to say what we

want to move in here, after all this is our town.
