Test drive becomes real steal

DOWNTOWN -- A woman shopping for a car got one for free during a

recent trip to a used car dealership.

The incident occured Monday at the Star Lincoln Mercury dealership on

900 South Brand Boulevard.

The woman told a car salesman she was looking for a car priced between

$8,000 and $10,000, a police report stated.

One of the salesman showed her a 1996 Mercury Sable priced at $8,995

and the two took it on a test drive, the report stated.

The salesman drove the car off the lot, then pulled over to let the

woman drive, the report stated. The woman got into the driver's seat and

as the salesman was walking around the car to get in the passenger side,

she drove off, the report stated.
