GLENDALE -- A small group gathered in front of the campaign office for

U.S. Rep. James Rogan (R-Glendale) to challenge the congressman's record

Vaughn Thompson of the Pasadena-based Accountability Project said the

conference on Wednesday was organized to refute claims made in a cable

Rogan's opponent, state Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Glendale), on HMO reform.

"Rogan is running ads and sending out mailers that are untrue," said

Thompson, referring to the congressman's stance on the Norwood-Dingell

bill approved by the House in 1999.

"His contention is that the bill allows employers to be sued for

simply offering health care," he said. "Anybody who's in health care and

has analyzed the bill says that's not true."

Jason Roe, manager of the Rogan campaign, called the conference a

stunt.

"Half the people there represent themselves as something they are

not," he said.
