August 10, 2000

Buck Wargo

CITY HALL -- Construction is expected to begin in early September to

replace guardrails over a bridge at Shirleyjean Street over the Verdugo

Wash.

Glendale awarded a $47,500 contract to Vido Samarzich Inc. of Alta

Loma to replace the wooden rails that have deteriorated with steel rails.

Max Hobbs, president of the Oakmont Woods Homeowners Assn., said the

new rails will help protect people crossing the bridge. Several years

ago, a Volkswagen bus went through the rail on the north side of the

bridge and landed upside down, injuring two men.

The rail work will be completed by early November.
