First family night planned by church
LA CRESCENTA -- Families are invited to the first Family Fun Night
from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at St. Luke's of the Mountains
Episcopal Church, 2563 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta.
There will be a chicken barbecue, songs, crafts and interactive
story-telling.
The focus will be on the story of Exodus and feature the premier of
"The Moses Movie," a short film starring the preschool children of St.
Luke's. Participants will also help recreate some of the plagues of Egypt
and play an important role in the interactive story-telling event
planned.

Self-Mastery workshops scheduled
GLENDALE -- The Rev. Bonnie Rowsell of the Glendale Church of
Religious Science will offer a four-week series of Self-Mastery workshops
from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays throughout August. The series will be
held at the church, 2146 E. Chevy Chase Drive, in Glendale. Rowsell will
focus on self-empowerment through improved self-esteem and self-image, as
well as Guided Meditation.

Salem honors 75th anniversary with concert
GLENDALE -- Salem Lutheran Church of Glendale celebrates its 75th
anniversary with a benefit concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, at 1211 N.
Brand Blvd.
The concert will feature the premiere performance of "Silence,"
written by Glendale resident and composer Hollis Thoms and performed by
several members of Thoms family. The public is invited to attend this
benefit performance. Donations will go toward improvements in the
sanctuary.
