Brand street improvement bid awarded

CITY HALL -- Preparation work will begin in October for reconstructing

South Brand Boulevard.

The Glendale City Council has awarded a $1.6 million contract to All

American Asphalt of Corona.

The repaving of South Brand between San Fernando Road and Colorado

Street won't start until January and be finished by mid-May.

New sidewalks will be built and storm drains added.

Some 43 ficus trees will be removed and replaced with crepe myrtle and

palm trees. Another 48 crepe myrtles will be planted in unshaded areas.

North Brand Boulevard between Colorado Street and the Glenoaks

Boulevard will be repaved after the first phase is completed.
