Adams Square street fair promises good music, food

September 23, 2000

ADAMS HILL -- Family fun is in the offing Saturday as the Adams Square

Merchants Assn. holds its first evening event.

Just look for the historic pink building where Park Avenue, Chevy

Chase Drive and Adams Street come together and Night A'Faire begins.

Park Avenue will be closed from 5 to 10 tonight. Guests can expect two

live country western bands, food by Canyon Cafe, Chuy's, Roasters and

others.

"We sent out 4,000 announcements and left fliers at the participating

restaurants," association board member Carol Cianfrini said. "We're

hoping for 200 guests."

The 12-member association was looking for a way to bring the community

together, Cianfrini said. With the funds generated from the event, the

association can hold even more outings in the future, she said.

The Adams Square Merchants Assn. has received a federal revitalization

grant to modernize the area. With fund-raising events, the association

hopes to speed up the landscaping process and bring more trees in to the

area.

Tonight's event will provide a kids' zone with pony rides, assorted

vendors, a moon bounce and a climbing wall.

Dedicated shoppers can browse booths with scented soap, handcrafted

jewelry by Precious Gems, 3-D art, bridal favors, information about the

Glendale Rose Float Assn. and two floral booths with unique gifts and

flowers. A beer garden will be set up for those over 21.
