They've Got The Latin Beat

Talented musicians, actors and dancers from the Arco Iris Music

Ensemble performed enchanting music of South America in colorful costumes

Thursday at an assembly for R.D. Elementary School students. The group

used 20 different instruments native to the continent. The group is part

of The Music Center Education Division. Musical selections came from

Argentina, Chile, Ecuador and Peru. The type of music performed ranged

from traditional folk music to contemporary jazz. The cultural arts

program was provided by the PTA. Patty Schermer, R.D. White PTA

president, and her board had a major role in coordinating the event for

the school's 400 C and D track students. The PTA will do another, similar

program in the spring.
