More than 300 entries for parade

GLENDALE -- Glendale's 53rd annual celebration of its Latino heritage

kicks off Saturday when more than 300 entries are expected for the Days

of Verdugo Parade.

Mickey and Minnie Mouse are the grand marshals for the parade. The

parade starts at 6 p.m., with the route going south on Brand Boulevard

between Doran and Harvard streets.

The theme of the parade is "Through the Eyes of a Child." Both kids

and adults will see marching bands, floats, dignitaries and politicians.

Santa Claus will bring up the rear of the parade.

The Days of Verdugo Festival runs Thursday through Oct. 22 at Verdugo

park, 1621 Canada Blvd.

Among the parade entries:

* San Fernando Rangers color guard.

* Mark Keppel Elementary School Drill Team.

* Glendale High School Drum Major.

* Glendale High School Auxiliary.

* Roosevelt High School Roughriders Marching Band.

* Glendale Cadet Squadron 27 Civil Air Patrol.

* NBC-4 helicopter pilot Capt. Bob Pettee.

* NBC-4 newscaster Christopher Nance.

* Burbank High School band, drill team and auxiliary.

* New Buffalo soldiers.

* World War II combat team.

* Glendale Bears football and cheerleading.

* Kelly Crawford, son of Broderick Crawford.

* Pasadena Cowgirls.

* Glassell Park School Folklorica Dance Group.

* City of Glendale Pipe Band.

* 40th Infantry Division of National Guard.
