The event begins at 10:30 a.m. The cost for lunch is $5. Following the

lunch, there will be a mini-boutique. For reservations, call Janet Hatzer

at 248-6276 or Millie Atwell at 894-1757.

Church Women United, celebrating 59 years in the community, was one of

several organizations recently honored by the Presidents Advisory Council

for its work in the community.

Last year, it was recognized for its Meals on Wheels program for the

Salvation Army.

The church women raise funds for charitable endeavors through their

annual salad bar luncheon in the summer.

This year, they were honored for contributing cosmetics, personal

items and undergarments for the outreach van of the Good Shepherd Center

for Homeless Women. The van circulates around the MacArthur Park and

downtown Los Angeles area distributing items to homeless women. One

member of the church women's group volunteers once a month to help take

the collected items from Glendale.

The women's group also provides magazines and baby receiving blankets

for Olive/UCLA hospital in Sylmar. In addition, members collect used

postage stamps for Norwegian Crippled Children, Campbell soup labels for

a Indian school in New Mexico, greeting cards to be donated to school

children and teachers and "cents-off" coupons for the Veterans Hospital.

Other projects are the American Leprosy Mission, Inc. and the YWCA's

Battered Women's Shelter.
