The students were presented with proclamations. They were given a $100
gift certificate to Swain's, an art-supply store, after winning the
The Ruth Jensen winners are Colleen Coghlan from Crescenta Valley High
School; Magda Keriakos, 18, from Glendale High School; and Vikki Paras,
18, from Hoover High School.
The students have all moved on to higher education -- Coghlan to
Pasadena Arts Center, Paras to the Art History Department at UC Santa
Cruz and Keriakos to Glendale City Collage.
The awards are given annually to the top art student at each school.
Named after a longtime Glendale arts teacher, the awards are handed
out by the Glendale Community Foundation, an organization that
administers charitable money. Foundation Executive Director Tom Miller
said the awards serve a twofold purpose.
"It's a way of honoring and remembering the legacy of Ruth Jensen,"
Miller said. "It also recognizes outstanding achievement and ability in
our local art students."
