Conductor performs solo for concert

DOWNTOWN -- Music Director Jeffrey Kahane will both conduct and play

piano along with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra when it performs

Saturday evening at The Alex Theatre.

His dual role will be in Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 22 in E-flat

major.

Another orchestra member, Allan Vogel, principal oboe, will be

featured in Richard Strauss' Oboe Concerto in D minor.

Opening piece will be Schoenberg's Chamber Symphony No. 2, a work the

composer began in the early 1900s but didn't complete until he settled in

Los Angeles in the late 1930s.

The concert begins at 8 p.m. with Concert Conversations, a talk on

history of the works, led by Alan Chapman beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are

$13 to $53 and may be charged by calling (213) 622-7001, Ext. 215 from 10

a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets will also be available at

the box office the night of the concert.
