FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART ACADEMY -- The Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy

girls' basketball team knew its handicap on the hardwood Monday:

turnovers.

As much as the Tologs try, they can't avoid it. Once again, turnovers

haunted them in a nonleague loss to Immaculate Heart.

The Pandas forced 30 turnovers as they defeated the Tologs, 64-45, at

Flintridge Sacred Heart.

"Our turnovers killed us," said Flintridge Sacred Heart Coach Ron

Sarber, whose team dropped to 1-2. "We got a little lazy on defense in

the third quarter."

The Tologs had 20 first-half turnovers, allowing Immaculate Heart to

build a 30-20 lead.

The Pandas shot 13 for 38 (34.2%) from the field in the first half,

and three of 12 (25.0%) from three-point territory.

Flintridge Sacred Heart shot only nine of 35 (25.7%) in the first half

and 21 of 70 (30.0%) overall.

The Pandas (3-0) received a game-high 28 points from senior captain

Sydney Miyatake, including 15 from three-point territory.

"In the first half we were kind of slow, but we picked it up as a

team," Miyatake said. "We wanted it more than they wanted it. We brought

our 'A' game. I do what I do and it just happens."

Panda guard Tara Weldon added 12 points.

Immaculate Heart fell behind 8-2 early in the first quarter, but it

went on a 15-2 run in the final five minutes -- holding Flintridge Sacred

Heart scoreless for the final two -- to take the lead for good.

The Tologs trailed by as much as 14 points in the second quarter.

Flintridge Sacred Heart trimmed the lead to six with five minutes

remaining in the third quarter.

Immaculate Heart responded with a 14-6 run to take a 48-34 lead

entering the fourth quarter.

"We missed a lot of easy shots," Sarber said.

Another downfall for the Tologs was their bench, which was outscored

20-3.

The Tologs had only one player score in double digits. Senior center

Kelly La Russa had a team-high 16 points, and Kathryn DiPietro and

Caroline Hugar pitched in with eight a piece.
