LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- Finishing undefeated in Prep League and

winning its first league championship might be the tip of the iceberg for

the Flintridge Prep girls' water polo team.

At least that's what the Rebels are counting on.

Now, Flintridge Prep will attempt to win its first postseason match at

3:15 p.m. today when it hosts Mark Keppel in a CIF Southern Section

Division III first round match. Flintridge Prep (19-3) will use its

powerful defense to shut down an inexperienced Mark Keppel team which

finished 13-9 and fourth in the Almont League.

Flintridge Prep, which went undefeated in 12 league matches, will rely

on juniors Amy Thomas and Briana Butler to provide the bulk of the

scoring duties against Mark Keppel's 11-man squad which features just two

seniors.

Flintridge Prep, which will make its second postseason appearance in

the program's four-year history, captured the league title Friday with a

6-5 victory against Chadwick. Flintridge Prep goalkeeper Allison Maginn

made several clutch saves to snuff out Chadwick's bid for a third

consecutive league title.

b Maginn might be called upon today to make several key saves,

particularly early in the match when teams appear most vulnerable.

The winner will meet Sherman Oaks Notre Dame or Arcadia in a second

round match at 3:15 p.m. Saturday at a site to be determined by a coin

flip.
