BEST BET "The Eight Elements of Masterful Communication" will be

presented from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in room 123 of Glendale Community

College's Adult Community Training Center, 1122 E. Garfield Ave. Dr.

Roger Burgraff will lead the seminar and discuss ways of projecting a

positive, confident image and how to reduce your fear of speaking in

public. There is a $29 seminar fee and a $20 materials fee. For more

TODAY YMCA of Glendale will host a Women's Valentine Special

Promotion through Saturday, during normal business hours at the YMCA, 130

N. Louise St. The YMCA is open from 5:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The

special promotion includes one free hour of physical training, a

long-stem rose and more. For more information, call 240-4130, ext. 44.

T'ai chi classes are offered at 10:30 a.m. every Friday at Summerville

at Casa Glendale, 426 Piedmont Ave. Everyone is welcome to attend, and

classes are free. The class will incorporate stretching, breathing,

mental, spiritual and physical exercise. The instructor explains all

movements to participants and traditional Chinese music is played. For

Friends of the Center will host the third annual Valentine's Dinner

Fund-raiser from 7 p.m. to midnight at New Horizons Family Center, 714 S.

Glendale Ave. The Los Angeles Mayan Club Salsa Dancers will perform and a

live auction will take place. There is a $35 donation per person to

attend. Those interested in attending are encouraged to make reservations

The Glendale Centre Theatre will present "West Side Story" at 8 p.m.

at 324 N. Orange St. The show will be the first musical of the theater's

2001 season. Directed by Tom Robinson, the show will run at 8 p.m.

Wednesdays through Saturdays, with a 3 p.m. Saturday matinee, through

April 7. "West Side Story," is based on Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet,"

and is set between Puerto Rican and American teenage street gangs in New

York City. Tickets range from $16 to $19 with senior rates available. For

SATURDAY The American Red Cross, Glendale-Crescenta Valley Chapter,

will offer a first aid and safety class from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The class

will go over first aid and CPR procedures on adults, children and

infants. The cost of the class is $40. For location of the class and more

"Mrs. Books" (Bobbie Wortman) will join Storytime Junction at 11 a.m.
