GLENDALE -- After losing possibly its biggest game of the season,

71-61, against West L.A. Saturday in a Western State Conference Southern

Division contest, the Glendale Community College women's basketball team

felt the backlash in the pairings of the Southern California Regional

playoff bracket.

A win at West L.A. could have secured a No. 9 seed and a home game in

the playoffs, but due to a poor shooting night, GCC (17-12) will have to travel to No. 13-seed San Bernardino Valley on Saturday as the No. 20

seed.

Against West L.A., Vaquero guard Marilyn Dubon scored just 13 points,

which was five points below her season average.

"[The loss against the Oilers] affected us a lot," GCC Coach Dyan

Miller said. "Marilyn probably played the worst basketball game since she

has been at Glendale."

Miller will be scrambling throughout the week to find out more

information about an unfamiliar San Bernardino squad.

"I feel busy," Miller said. "I'm on the phone trying to find out about

San Bernardino. They are defiantly beatable. It should be a good game."

A pleasant surprise for Miller has been the play of freshman forward

Sirushi Demirchyan. She is averaging 9.8 points per game and is shooting

31% from the field. Allison Gonsalves, who is second on the team in

scoring with 13 points per game is shooting 28% from beyond the

three-point arc.

San Bernardino Valley finished the season at 26-8. The winner of the

Vaquero-Indian game will travel to face Santa Ana (24-6), which is the

No. 4 seed, Wednesday at a time to be determined.
