"A lot of times, people don't take the time to get checked out the way
they should," said Bruce Nelson, an event organizer and Glendale
Adventist spokesman.
The expo offers a convenient way for people to receive health testing
without worrying about insurance, Nelson said.
"It's all in one place at one time," he said.
Glendale Memorial Hospital will also hold a free health fair from
10:30 to 2 p.m. today at the facility, 1410 S. Central Ave., in the mail
lobby and second floor of the heart center. Specialists will measure
blood pressure and and body fat content.
Adventist's Health Fair Expo is an annual event put on by KNBC-TV
Channel 4 and the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles. This year's
expo will include more than 40 sites throughout five counties.
Glendale Adventist and the Glendale-Crescenta Valley chapter of the
American Red Cross will help sponsor activities at the local site.
"It's better to be preventive than to wind up having to go in for
something serious," said Mark Keith of the local Red Cross chapter.
Free mammograms will be available for low-income women who register
this week. Free transportation to the event will be offered to those who
register by Friday.
Diagnoses and prescriptions will not be provided at the expo but
visitors may request referrals.
