Letter -- Tom Miller

April 14, 2001

I am writing regarding Mike Leum's editorial reply ("Rescue team's

goal is to save lives," April 4) regarding the Montrose Search and Rescue

Team.

Mike was very accurate about the volunteer nature of the team and

about its efforts to raise funds for expenses not covered by the county,

but he was too modest to mention that a Montrose Search and Rescue Team

Endowment Fund has been established at the Glendale Community

Foundationby a gentlemen rescued by the team.

The fund accepts contributions that will be invested, and the earnings

will be used to help the team year after year.

Anyone interested in more information may call the Community

Foundation at 241-8040, or write to the Foundation at P.O. Box 313,

Glendale, CA 91209-0313, or e-mail us at gcfndn@earthlink.net.

The Montrose Search and Rescue Team members received the Spirit of

Philanthropy award last November for their heroism, and they deserve all

the help they can get.
