Karekin II to visit Southland

NORTHEAST GLENDALE -- A celebration of 1,700 years of Christianity by

area Armenians will be heightened by a special visit from His Holiness

Karekin II, catholicos of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church.

Karekin II is scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles Thursday, May 10, and

will stay through Monday, May 14. He will visit Glendale on May 11.

Karekin II is scheduled to deliver a "bread, water and salt" blessing

at Van Nuys Airport upon his arrival in the Southland, followed by

remarks from Archbishop Vatche Hovsepian, primate of the Western Diocese

of the Armenian Church.

A procession will be at 7 p.m. May 10, at St. Peter Armenian Apostolic

Church in Van Nuys.

Throughout the visit, Karekin II will meet with business leaders,

students and representatives of the Armenian-American community and

church.

Local Armenian-American talent will perform a musical program for His

Holiness at 7 p.m. Friday, May 11, at the Glendale Civic Auditorium.

Karekin II will then visit the Ararat Home of Los Angeles, Inc. on

Saturday and bless the residents of the Armenian elderly facility.

THURSDAY, MAY 10: His Holiness Karekin II will deliver ablessing at 10

a.m. at Van Nuys Airport, 16461 Sherman Way, in Van Nuys. A Hrashapar

Procession will be at 7 p.m. at St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church,

17231 Sherman Way in Van Nuys.

FRIDAY, MAY 11: Karekin II will visit St. Gregory Church, 2215 E.

Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena. An Armenian School Children's Program will be

at 10 a.m. in the church's Agajanian Hall. A concert will be performed

for the pontiff at 7 p.m. at the Glendale Civic Auditorium, 1401 N.

Verdugo Road in Glendale.

SATURDAY, MAY 12: A breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. at Ararat Home

of Los Angeles, Inc., and Karekin II will bless the residents of the

senior facility.
