LANCASTER -- When the Village Christian track and field team traveled

to Antelope Valley College on Thursday for the second half of the Alpha

League finals, the Crusader girls' squad proved to be more competitive

than the boys.

The Village Christian girls' team excelled in both the track and the

field events -- winning four individual titles, second only to L.A.

Baptist -- led by freshmen Lauren Dvoracek and Ashley Williams.

Dvoracek won the 1,600 meters in 5 minutes 32.13 seconds and won the

3,200 race, held Tuesday, in 12:45.

"It was real hard in the 3,200, because there was so much wind,"

Dvoracek said. "I was disappointed because I might not get a good spot in

the CIF preliminaries. "This is a great team and I wouldn't want to be

on any other team, as everyone is real nice and supportive."

Williams won the high jump with a leap of 4 feet 8 and placed second

in the triple jump, with an effort of 33-2 1/2. She also finished second

in the pole vault, held Tuesday, and third in the long jump with a leap

of 15-9.

Crusader Jillian Rothgeb finished second in the 100 low hurdles in

18.57, behind L.A. Baptist's Erica Fleming -- who won in 15.71 -- and

placed second in the 300 intermediate hurdles, with a time of 51.72,

finishing behind Fleming again.

Nazy Davtyan, Charlotte Causly, Leslie Chaplin and Ashley Santos

finished third for the Crusaders in the 400 relay, clocking 53.75.

L.A. Baptist's Alyson Felix continued her dominance in the 100 and

200, winning in 11.83 and 24.5, respectively.

The Village Christian boys' team had two individuals -- Mike

Gharkanian and Brian Camara -- who finished in the top three in their

respective events.

Gharkanian finished second in the 800 in 2:03.81 and second in the

1,600 in 4:48.92, both personal best times.

"I felt I performed pretty good, because I PR'd in both events and

felt real good about that," Gharkhanian said. "Overall, I was pleased and

very happy with the performance of our team."

Camara finished third in the pole vault with an effort of 10-6.

Killpatrick's Larry Cotton won the 100 in 10.96 and the 200 in 22.06,

Paraclete's Lymar Cole won both the 110 high hurdles and 300 intermediate

hurdles, and L.A. Baptist's Erik Amdisen tripled in the 800, 1,600 and

3,200.
