Jonathan Rosales:

I wasn't too crazy about 1999's "The Mummy," the only good thing about

which were the astounding special effects. "The Mummy Returns" wasn't a

great movie either, but it was a great deal more enjoyable than its

precursor.

Sure, Brendan Fraser isn't the greatest actor that ever was, and,

sure, the story isn't groundbreaking cinematic material, but with an

action sequence every five minutes, this sequel managed to keep my

attention for over two hours.

Despite being a bit predictable and stupid at times, "The Mummy

Returns" was a fun ride worth at least one viewing.

Spencer Beers:

Stephen Sommers' "The Mummy Returns" relies on that modern-day adage,

"If it worked once, do it again" and again and again. Substituting

special effects for character and plot, this carnival ride of a movie

assaults your eyes and ears for two hours then drops you off, not wanting

more, but happy to be released.

If you missed the first "Mummy," or are under 30, you'll probably like

this. It does have its moments. But the problem with having so many

action sequences is that it never builds to a climax.

Here's another adage Mr. Sommers: "More is less, less is more."
