GLENDALE -- State Sen. Jack Scott (D-Glendale) announced plans this

week to pursue opening a trade office in the Armenian capital of Yerevan.

Scott will sponsor a forum in Glendale on June 22 to discuss

establishing a memorandum of understanding between California and

Armenia.

Armenian-American business leaders and legislators are expected to

attend the forum along with California Trade and Commerce Agency

Secretary Lon Hatamiya.

The agreement would be the first step in setting up a trade office,

and would set guidelines for interaction between the two entities.

"It is critical that we continue to find ways to grow California's

economy," Scott said. "Expanding trade and business opportunities between

Armenian Americans here in California and Armenia makes sense."

California has similar trade agreements with Scotland, Israel, Ireland

and Singapore.
