GLENDALE -- Glendale Police arrested five men and seized more than

five pounds of opium after a surveillance that started in the city,

officials said.

Police searched two houses Thursday -- one in Tarzana and the other in

Van Nuys -- after following a man who allegedly sold opium to a man in

Glendale, Investigator Bob Breckenridge said. In the houses and from the

occupants, officials seized opium that had a street value of $320,000,

Breckenridge said.

Some of the drugs were packaged to be sent in the mail.

The five men arrested -- whose bail ranges from $100,000 to $500,000

-- are scheduled to be arraigned Monday in San Fernando or Los Angeles
