BURBANK -- State Assemblyman Dario Frommer (D-Burbank) announced

Thursday that his request for funding for urban parks has been approved

by the Assembly and state Senate budget committees and will now head to a

conference committee for approval.

Though Frommer's proposal in March asked for $100 million in state

funding, the Assembly Budget Committee appropriated only $30 million in

the budget for urban parks, and the Senate Budget Committee appropriated

only $25 million for urban parks.

The approval represents a step toward receiving urban parks funding

from the state. The Senate and Assembly budgets will be reconciled and

joined into a final state budget within the next few weeks.

Cities throughout the state, including Glendale and Burbank, will be

eligible to apply for funding from the urban parks fund if Frommer's

proposal is approved.

The final state budget is expected to be sent to Gov. Gray Davis on

June 15.
