Recall petition before clerk

June 20, 2001

Alex Coolman

CITY HALL -- Supporters of the effort to recall Mayor Gus Gomez have

submitted to the city clerk the final text of their recall petition.

City Clerk Doris Twedt has 10 days to review the wording of the

petition, the text of which is identical to the petition originally

submitted by recall supporters.

If the wording is approved, the recall effort, which must gather about

13,500 signatures to qualify for a special election, can officially

begin.

It was at this stage of the recall effort that the original "notice of

intent to recall" was rejected by Twedt in late May. Language in the

resubmitted notice of intent was modified to avoid a repetition of the

problem.
