From Tibet to Glendale

DOWNTOWN -- Enlightenment met conspicuous consumption Sunday as a

group of Tibetan Lamas began work on an elaborate sand mandala inside the

Glendale Galleria. The Lamas will be working on the mandala through

Saturday as part of the Tools for Peace outreach program, which aims to

build community and encourage peace. When it is completed, the mandala

will be swept into the Los Angeles River. The public is encouraged to

visit and contribute to a community mandala, which will complement the

creation of the Lamas. The mandala is available for viewing at the

Galleria from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. It is in store #203, between

Macy's and Nordstrom.
