NORTHEAST GLENDALE -- The Glendale Unified Board of Education has

delayed deciding whether to borrow about $3 million from a special

reserve account to fund construction at Crescenta Valley High School.

Supt. Jim Brown told the board that as officials close out the books

for the fiscal year, other funding options might become available.

"It does appear that revenues will be higher than anticipated," Brown

said at the Tuesday evening school boardmeeting.

Those revenues -- the total amount of which has yet to be determined

-- could be used to fund a portion of the remaining $3 million cost of

the high school construction project, Brown said.

District officials had recommended using special reserve funds used to

repay certificates of participation, a type of interest-bearing loan the

district had taken out for another project.

The issue will return to the board on Sept. 4.

In other business:

* Several board members expressed interest in broadcasting school

board meetings live. Currently there is a scheduling conflict with

Glendale Community College. Officials are looking into broadcasting at

least a portion of the meeting live. Several members also spoke in favor

of pursuing a live call-in show hosted by board members.

* The board adopted revisions to policies on school searches, use of

electronic information services and vandalism, theft and graffiti. The

revisions updated the policies to correspond with changes in the state

Education Code.
