School Zone introduction

August 22, 2001

David Silva

Computer technology. Increasing academic standards. Heightened campus

security concerns. New and returning students face a far different school

experience in the 21st century than did their predecessors.

But in many ways, their experience remains much as before. Parents and

children still agonize over back-to-school fashions. There's that rush

for school supplies we all remember. And of course, there's that peculiar

mixture of sadness for the loss of summer's freedom and anticipation for

the challenges ahead.

School Zone 2001, a back-to-school guide for students and parents, was

designed to reflect that combination of old and new. We hope in these

pages you'll learn more about the new face of the local educational

experience, and be comforted by the fact that some things simply never

change.

You'll find out what's hot and what's not with school fashions,

explore the growing concern over school lunch nutrition and learn about

what's being done to improve campus security. You'll get advice from

school administrators and a quick look at some of the new faces of the

principals who will be running the show.

And you'll also find a complete list of contact phone numbers for

every public school in the Glendale, Burbank and foothills area, along

with important school dates to remember.

We hope you'll find it an educating experience..
