GLENDALE -- Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Glendale) is urging qualified high

school seniors to apply to a U.S. Military Academy and possibly qualify

for a free college education.

Members of Congress, including Schiff, nominate a limited number of

students from their district to the four military academies.

Schiff, who represents the 27th Congressional District, has assembled

a panel of community members with military experience that will interview

each candidate in December for academy consideration.

If selected for an appointment, students will receive a full four-year

scholarship and a commission as a military officer after graduation.

Applications are due by Nov. 9, and students between 17 and 22 can

apply. Applications must include SAT test scores, letters of

recommendation and a personal essay.
