After reading the new EIR on the proposed Oakmont V development, it is

hard to believe that it's even more disturbing than the first one.

The findings turned up additional areas of concern in areas not

mentioned previously. It neglected an option on the use this land for a

recreation area. This has been at the forefront of discussion since day

one. The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy is ready to assist in the

purchase of this property and even consider a role in park development as

a preserve for open space.

I have heard the worn-out slogan of "quality of life" in Glendale for

more than 20 years now. During that time, the population has doubled,

creating more traffic, parking problems and demands on city services, and

the city still is extremely deficient in parks and recreation areas for a

city of this size.

This area is one of the last open spaces available in the city. It has

been a prime topic of concern at the city, state and federal levels.

Funding has been granted through several bills toward the purchase of the

land for open space and recreational use.

I urge all residents of the city to join forces to keep this property

as open space and as a recreational area. Any other development will only

add to the urban sprawl and create more problems that deteriorate the

so-called quality of life.

Protect the parklands for us all.
