Letter -- Chris Kilpatrick

August 28, 2001

I would like to respond to Joseph Adamian's letter, "Recall backers

should voice their real agenda," Community Forum, Aug. 17.

He states that the recall effort -- for Gus Gomez's decision on

lowering the flag for the Armenian Genocide -- is really a front for

"Armenian haters to spill more of their poison."

Assuming that Joseph Adamian is in favor of lowering the flag, he is

truly the one using a front. It is easy to divert attention from any true

issue (as seen with this one, especially) by simply calling the

opposition racist, bigots or, in this case, Armenian haters.

Honestly, I am sure we do have some bigots (which I am not) in

Glendale, but that is not the issue. The real issue is if a local

government official (Gomez) has the right to dictate when a flag should

be lowered.

The answer is no!

By doing this, he is overstepping Section 175, article (m) of the U.S.

Code, commonly known as the "Flag Laws."

When someone tries to call an effort to live by the laws of this great

country wrong and then supports a man who is willing to overstep a

federal law without due process, he has made a very good American (and

hopefully many others) mad!
