Girls' tennis only getting better

the lineup just yet, but he expressed his confidence that the Dons will

turn in another stellar regular season. He said he's also hopeful they

can surpass last season 's first-round ousting by Granada Hills in the

City Section playoffs.

Keeping with this current theme, Flintridge Prep is relying on its

touted young players, mixed of course, with a dash of veteran experience

to help it improve on last season's finish.

And while Village Christian will depend on its returners, it will be a

new coach, in lifelong tennis player Brian Stone, who will have much to

do with the Crusaders' fate this season.

Hoover

Pacific League

Last season: 9-7, 5-5 in league. Third in league. Lost in wild-card

round of CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs.

Lynn Santamaria (11th year).

Players to watch: Alisa Nadjaryan, junior, Amy Weber, sophomore, Amy

Yi, senior, Jane Moon, sophomore, Andrea Lee, senior.

"[It's] nice, to have several players back, we're a little bit better,

a little bit tougher."

Crescenta Valley

Pacific League

Last season: 15-1, 10-0 in league. First in league. Lost in first

round of CIF Southern Section Division I first playoffs.

Coach: Tom Gossard (seventh year).

Players to watch: Kendra Kessen, junior, Bora Song, senior, Ashley

Goodwin, senior, Lauren Hawthorne, sophomore, Cathy Lee, senior, Lori

Goo, senior.

"We're really strong this year, we've won 24 regular season matches in

a row, we know what we've got, but we're going to focus on moving our

feet, bending our knees and hitting good shots."

Glendale

Pacific League

Last season: 7-10, 4-6 in league. Fourth in league. Did not make

playoffs.

Coach: Bob Davidson (sixth year).

Players to watch: Jennifer Kang, sophomore, Georgia Beesemeyer,

sophomore, Helen Hahn, junior, Armineh Mikaelian, senior, Ani Mikaelian,

senior.

"I'd say we're looking at trying to get to the playoffs -- we're

definitely better than we were last season, the problem is, the three

teams ahead of us are real good. But our goal is to compete for third

place."

La Canada

Rio Hondo League

Last season: 9-9, 7-3 in league. Third in league. Lost in first round

of CIF Southern Section Division IV playoffs.

Joe Thompson (seventh year).

Players to watch: Kim Gilmour, junior, Ciri Bryan, sophomore, Nicole

Arboleda, junior, Whitney Bernstein, junior, Bianca Botta, freshman.
