complete a 12-15, 15-13, 15-13, 15-10, nonleague victory against host
Glendale Wednesday night.
Anderson, a senior middle blocker/outside hitter, froze several
Glendale players during her impressive service run to help Burroughs
(4-2) record the match's final seven points.
"It comes from four years of practice," said Anderson, who finished
with three aces. "My responsibility is to put the ball in play. I
confused them on my serving because maybe they weren't expecting crisp
serves."
There wasn't much Glendale (2-4) could do to defuse Anderson's serving
talent. Nor could the Nitros muster any momentum after rallying from a
two-point deficit to win the first game.
Glendale Coach Michelle Capozzoli said a string of mental
inconsistencies nagged the Nitros.
"It seems like they play when they want to play," Capozzoli said. "We
came out strong, but it's a case of it really being up to them to want to
finish it. I'd be a millionaire or could write a book if I knew how to
have them finish off games."
Glendale enjoyed a significant height advantage, with three of its
players hovering around the six-foot mark, but rarely used it.
Burroughs' athleticism prevailed, led by Anderson and a match-high 26
kills from standout middle blocker Sara Larquier.
Glendale received 15 assists from setter Hazel Villanueva and eight
kills from outside hitter/middle blocker Tonee Barachina.
