Scott biotechnology center bill passes

GLENDALE -- Gov. Gray Davis has signed a bill introduced by State Sen.

Jack Scott (D-Glendale) that would move the Pasadena Bioscience

Innovation and Training Center to its next stage of development.

The bill approves using $200,000, secured in the state budget by

Scott, for the Pasadena project.

A portion of the funds will be used to develop a workforce training

program designed to supplement classroom education.

The proposed center would also include research laboratories and

manufacturing facilities.

The project is a cooperative effort of the city of Pasadena,

California State University, Caltech, Pasadena City College and the

Huntington Institute.
