Boo Ball At City Hall

November 01, 2001

About 100 city employees let their hair down Wednesday and

participated in a lunchtime Halloween costume contest sponsored by the

Parks, Recreation and Community Services Division. Employees came dressed

as the Statue of Liberty and a '70s throwback in platforms and bushy hair

who carried a disco ball. Others dressed up as witches. A barbershop

quartet accompanied participants as they paraded around Parcher Plaza at

City Hall trying to impress judges. Contest winners received prizes

donated by local merchants. The personnel division walked off with the

perpetual trophy for best office theme, "Honoring America." That

division, though, didn't face much competition. No other divisions

entered this year's contest. "They took first, second and third place,"

said Karen Fries, a Community Services supervisor who helped coordinate

the event.
