Looking toward Thanksgiving

November 16, 2001

SOUTHWEST GLENDALE -- For many, Thanksgiving is a family affair, but

for the local Salvation Army it's an open-door experience.

Planning is underway for the holiday on Thursday, in which the

Glendale corps will prepare meals for hundreds of locals. While many of

the participants are homeless, the hourlong event is open to anyone.

"It's come one, come all," said Camille Guerrero, the group's office

manager.

That includes volunteers, especially ones bearing pies.

"We desperately need pies ... store-bought ones," said Guerrero,

adding that canned goods are also needed. Any donations need to be

dropped off at the Salvation Army at 320 W. Windsor Road by Wednesday.

Other groups, like Catholic Charities, are offering Thanksgiving

services for their clients.
