Letter -- Jean Lewis

December 07, 2001

There have been some interesting letters in the News-Press around the

latest traffic-calming measure -- traffic circles. Traffic circles appear

to be the wave of the future. I also am one of those who does not live in

the area where the traffic calming is taking place.

The latest tirade was from Lucy Hirt. She states she has lived in

Glendale since 1943 and wants us all to know that the safety island at

Geneva and Mountain streets is dangerous, tedious and tricky. And,

furthermore, her dear friend from San Diego doesn't like this circle

either and wants to know what is going on.

Then there is the opinion of good old Jim Carlile, our friendly

Burbanker. Not enough traffic problems there with all of their chokers,

speed humps and circles that the city of Burbank has installed. He has

got it all worked out that he should make a beeline to Burbank on

Mountain Street. One would think there are enough problems in Burbank

that needed solving without old-timer Carlile being a gadfly up

Glendale's nose.
