Letter -- Donald Mazen

December 10, 2001

I have a gripe this Christmas. For the past three to four years, maybe

longer, there has been a new trend of writing or saying "Happy Holidays."

It's been repeated again this year on just about every store window I

have seen, both in Glendale and elsewhere.

I have nothing against such a greeting, but where have the "Merry

Christmas" writings gone on businesses? I see nary a one.

My point is that this is a Christian nation, and the "Merry Christmas"

greeting should be a part of that recognition. Tell me, what's wrong with

associating Christmas with Jesus Christ (since it's his birthday) as we

used to? It seems in our society today we don't want to offend anyone,

even if they are in the minority. So away goes "Merry Christmas."

I always thought our country, a democracy, was based on majority

rules.
